Scotland To Probe Mahama On Gay Rights .

Breaking !!!

President Mahama in his visit to Scotland is bound to answer questions regarding the violation of human rights as the Human Rights Campaigners have urged the Scottish parliament to probe the Ghanaian leader on issues related to gay and lesbian rights.

The call follows Amnesty International’s criticism on Ghana’s record on torture, gay rights and violence against minority groups including women and children.
Naomi McAuliffe of Amnesty International has revealed that although president Mahama is embarking on the visit on the basis of strengthening trade ties between both countries, issues related to these human rights violations are bound to be raised.

“Although President Mahama’s visit is primarily about trade, we urge the Scottish government and MSPs meeting him to be aware of these human rights abuses and take the opportunity to raise the issues,” she stated.

President Mahama is expected to be welcomed to the Scottish Parliament by the presiding officer, Tricia who has expressed her interest to “extend the hand of friendship and seek to strengthen the economic and democratic ties between our two countries.

Issues of gay and lesbian rights remain one of the main issues regarding Ghana’s criminal code system as persons caught or suspected to be homosexual are bound to face at lease three years behind bars.
